Window Vests for Clear Incident Command Identification
Window vests provide flexible responder identification by allowing agencies to insert printed position titles into clear display panels on the vest. This system allows departments to quickly update command roles without needing to purchase new vests, making them a practical solution for emergency management teams, hospitals, emergency operations centers (EOCs), and planned events. Window vests are commonly used to display roles such as Incident Commander, Operations, Planning, Logistics, Triage, Treatment, and Transport.
DMS window vests do not include a 5-point breakaway safety system. For this reason, they are generally recommended for interior or controlled environments where entanglement hazards are minimal. These environments may include hospital command centers, emergency operations centers, shelters, or indoor incident coordination areas where clear role identification is still essential but field hazards are reduced.
When used within the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS), window vests help maintain organized command structure and situational awareness.
