Window Vests

Custom Window Vests for Flexible Role Identification

Disaster Management Systems (DMS) provides custom window vests and incident command identification vests designed to clearly identify operational roles during emergency response operations. These vests use interchangeable inserts, allowing departments to quickly update titles, assignments, and operational designations as response structures change. Unlike Dynamic Vests, window vests do not include a 5-point breakaway system, making them best suited for indoor environments such as Emergency Operations Centers, hospitals, and training exercises.

These window vests help teams:

  • Quickly update command titles and operational roles

  • Improve coordination and situational awareness during incidents

  • Support organized ICS and NIMS command structures

Used by Fire/EMS agencies, hospitals, emergency management offices, and public safety organizations, DMS custom window vests help ensure clear role identification during both exercises and coordinated response operations.

Window Vests for Clear Incident Command Identification

Window vests provide flexible responder identification by allowing agencies to insert printed position titles into clear display panels on the vest. This system allows departments to quickly update command roles without needing to purchase new vests, making them a practical solution for emergency management teams, hospitals, emergency operations centers (EOCs), and planned events. Window vests are commonly used to display roles such as Incident Commander, Operations, Planning, Logistics, Triage, Treatment, and Transport.

DMS window vests do not include a 5-point breakaway safety system. For this reason, they are generally recommended for interior or controlled environments where entanglement hazards are minimal. These environments may include hospital command centers, emergency operations centers, shelters, or indoor incident coordination areas where clear role identification is still essential but field hazards are reduced.

When used within the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS), window vests help maintain organized command structure and situational awareness. They are often used alongside triage tags, triage ribbon systems, and command boards to support coordinated response operations and training exercises.

Common Uses

  • Displaying interchangeable ICS position titles using printed inserts
  • Identifying command staff within Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs)
  • Supporting hospital incident command and indoor response coordination
  • Improving role visibility during emergency drills and training exercises
